Are you ready? If you have accepted Jesus as your Personal Savior, you are a candidate for Baptism.
What is Baptism? Did you know that in the ordinance of baptism, the water is a picture of death? Have you ever been told that when a person goes underwater or has the water sprinkled or poured over him or her in baptism that the water is a picture of their identification with the death of Christ? It is TRUE.
As the water runs off, or as the person is brought up out of the water, it is symbolic of the resurrection of Christ out of death. The person being Baptized is "acting out" his or her death to sin and subsequent newness of their walk with Jesus Christ. This act of obedience isn't simply a take it or leave it issue.
While it isn't essential for salvation, it is certainly expected of the believer. It is a picture and commitment of us living a holy and pleasing life to our Lord Jesus Christ and being united with Christ Jesus in the likeness of His death and His resurrection.
What to expect on the big day:
- Meet with Pastor
to confirm significance, meaning, and understanding of what this requires and the commitment entailed.
- You can wear the clothes you want to be baptized in or bring them and we will give you an opportunity to change. (Depending on the service and number of baptisms.) Please no white T-shirts.
- Bring a change of clothes.
- You will be immersed in our baptismal.
- Bring a towel.
- Be prepared to give a testimony of the specific fact that Jesus has saved you and you desire to be obedient to His Word regarding baptism. If extenuating circumstances are in play there may be the option of someone reading their testimony, but each person must share publicly.
- Select someone in advance, someone to pray for you before your are baptized.
